Functional organization structure
The organization structure that has been identified is a functional organization structure. This type of organization structures is best suited for organizations that operate in a stable environment since they are not flexible and do not adapt to changes easily (Daft et al., 2010). Functional organization structure is suitable for organizations that do not require be adjusting or changing easily. The functional structure is usually highly specialized as all the units are entitled to a single unit that is the top management. It is referred to as functional because personnel’s are grouped according to their skills or similarity of functions that they perform. It is hard to break silo using this type of structure because each unit reports to their senior who also report to whoever is above him in the chain of command. Each unit acts separately from the other units something that makes it hard to effect any changes in case they are required.
The type of structure leads to complications when it comes to the process of making decisions. The main reason for this complication is due to the availability of the functional structure. The functional units are usually independent of each other and hence they are not accountable to one another (Weigelt & Miller, 2013). Additionally, the units have decision powers that are the same something that creates bureaucracy when it comes to the process of making decisions.
