Civility
Civility is a concept that shapes communication and interactions in a public domain. In each society, people have different views concerning a particular subject. Civility aims at ensuring that there is respect amongst human beings even when expressing controversy, disparity, and disagreement (Disbrow & Prentice, 2009). Communication is an environment of respect is monitored to ensure that neither of the parties is aggrieved. Notably, while communicating, people tend to seek common ground rather than winning at the expense of hurting others. Besides, respectful communication is characterized by the willingness to listen, participate in a meaningful discussion, and amicable negotiations (Disbrow & Prentice, 2009).
Persuasiveness of Information
People should be surprised at the nature of how information is used to convince them since it is mostly out of control. Human beings make individual purchasing decisions since there are nonconscious responses that influence their behavior (Baumeister, Mele, & Vohs, 2010). Additionally, the society has little control over the choices that are made in life due to the changing nature of the environment. With the introduction of numerous social media platforms across the globe, most people are not capable of controlling the kind of information they access which makes them easily persuaded.
Misleading Role of Advertising
The major components in an advert are the central cues which focus on the quality of the message, and the peripheral signals which are concerned with the source attractiveness, expertise, and mood (Shrum et al., 2012). The ability of a company to provide a strong argument may mislead the customers since it persuades them that their product is the best in the market. Adverts also mislead the consumers when the firm’s management decides to use a celebrity to endorse a particular product. Although the renowned personality is the company’s representation of quality and truthful information, the advert becomes misleading whenever people are convinced to purchase a product that is beyond their financial means.
Information Manipulation
One way in which I feel manipulated by information is when I purchase an item that I do not require and which was not budgeted for. I also think I am exploited whenever I make a wrong decision due to misleading information. Additionally, I am manipulated by information whenever I make a loss after believing in some incredible message. To ensure that I do not suffer from future losses, I verify the truthfulness of the source of information. Besides, I avoid making decision hurriedly whenever I receive specific information, and it is the only way to avoid making losses.
Future Trend
There is a trend in the reduction of civility and the manipulation of people by the information channeled through various sources. Most of the upcomi...
