The field of emotional intelligence is a study area. This means that its definition is always changing. Its current definition states that emotional intelligence is the ability to monitor personal feelings and those of others, discriminate them and use the information obtained to guide their actions and how they think. Emotional intelligence mostly involves emotional empathy, which means the ability of a person to concentrate on their emotions and their moods and those of others. It describes how one can adapt to different problems in life and how to adjust to them. People with emotional intelligence can balance emotions, courtesy, and respect (Salovey and Grewal, 2005).
Emotional intelligence can be measured using the Emotional Intelligence quotient which is basically about the ability of a person to perceive, assess and manage people’s emotions. There are three models used to evaluate emotional intelligence. These are Emotional Model based on Ability, Emotional Intelligence Model based on Trait, and finally, Emotional intelligence from Mixed models.
