Management Practices: Final Paper
Introduction
The word “management” refers to several functions and activities that support the goals of an organization. The core functions of management vary significantly from one organization to another. Managers should promote the best practices in order to produce the best outcomes and goals. The “five major functions of management include planning, staffing, organizing, controlling, and leading” (Spaho, 2013, p. 104). This managerial approach will produce the best goals. Some companies also utilize powerful marketing and accounting practices in order to achieve their goals. The five functions of management have made it easier for our firm to achieve its objectives. Our organization uses these functions in order to support its goals. This essay examines how different managers use the five functions of management.
Thesis Statement: Effective organizational management must focus on different aspects such as decision-making, planning, staffing, leading, controlling, and motivation.
The Five Management Practices
Planning
Many businesses “use various strategies to manage their current and future operations” (Schwartz & Liakopoulos, 2010, p. 24). Planning is “a goal-setting strategy that encourages different employees and stakeholders to focus on the best objectives” (Ugwulashi, 2012, p. 317). Our managers have been using the best strategies in order to achieve their goals. This approach has made it easier for the firm to achieve most of its goals. The company manufactures and markets a wide range of consumer products. The managers always manage every available resource. The company also monitors the changing patterns in the market. This approach makes it easier for the company to identify the best business objectives. The company has also hired competent planners in order to support such objectives. Such planners use their competencies to monitor different managerial activities (Schwartz & Liakopoulos, 2010). This practice has made it easier for the company to achieve its goals.
Planning is a powerful practice that makes it easier for many organizations to formulate their strategies. Such strategies “should be in accordance with the available resources” (Schwartz & Liakopoulos, 2010, p. 25). Business firms should have the right resources in every department. Managers should always use their decision-making and analytical skills in order to make the best plans. They should also “collaborate with different stakeholders in order to achieve the best goals” (Reilly, Minnick, & Baack, 2011, p. 76). Our company has always embraced the concept of planning. This practice has made it easier for the firm to become a leading player in its industry.
Organizing
Every firm must have a unique organizational structure. This structure determines the performance and effectiveness of different departments. The function makes it possible for different managers to execute the best business activities. Organizational leaders “must allocate different duties to their employees” (Ugwulashi, 2012, p. 319). This approach will ensure every task is completed in a timely manner. Managers should always understand “the competencies possessed by their personal assistants (PAs) and team leaders” (Schwartz & Liakopoulos, 2010, p. 27). This knowledge will make it easier for them to manage different organizational functions.
Our company uses this organizational function effectively. Every manager presents the best ideas in order to have an effective organizational structure. Every department has a competent manager. Some departments also work together in order to produce the best outcomes. The company’s chain of command has also been producing the best outcomes (Boudreau & Ramstad, 2006). The employees at the company also possess the best competencies and skills. This approach is currently supporting the company’s goals. A proper organizational structure ‘should become the skeleton of every firm” (Boudreau & Ramstad, 2006, p. 31). A proper Organizational Strategy (OS) will make it easier for different managers to achieve their objectives. The strategy also identifies various obstacles that can affect the performance of the targeted organization. This function supports the changing needs of different employees.
Staffing
Our organization takes the issue of staffing seriously. Every “employee passes through a complex and rigorous recruitment process” (Boudreau & Ramstad, 2006, p. 31). The “process of staffing is critical because it can make or break a business organization” (Reilly et al., 2011, p. 54). Human Resource Managers (HRMs) should always address the issues affecting their companies. Organizational leaders should also promote the best practices and ideas (Boudreau & Ramstad, 2006). Managers should always be ready to hire the right people. The individuals should possess the best skills and competencies.
Every manager in our firm uses the best concepts and ideas in order to support the targeted goals. The firm has also designed an effective hiring process. Every organizational leader examines the effectiveness of the hiring process. This approach has made it possible for the company to recruit the best employees. The company also uses different training programs in order to support the needs of its employees. Business managers should “also support their employees” (Spaho, 2013, p. 108). The company also transfers its employees to different departments. This process has made it easier for the company to achieve most of its goals. Staffing is a powerful practice that “can make it easier for many companies to achieve their potentials” (Reilly et al., 2011, p. 59). Organizational leaders should therefore recruit the best employees.
Controlling
Every firm “should promote the best performance practices and standards” (Spaho, 2013, p. 108). Controlling focuses on “different strategies aimed at establishing the best standards within an organization” (Spaho, 2013, p. 108). Managers should also control the behaviors, views, expectations, and practices of their employees. They should also identify the major challenges existing in their firms. Managers can use this concept to monitor the goals and competencies of their employees (Reilly et al., 2011). This concept will ensure every organizational achieves its goals. The strategy will also empower different managers and employees within an organization.
This function ensures every organizational activity is completed in a proper manner. The managers recruit the right individuals to monitor every organizational function. The firm uses different regulations and standards in order to achieve the best goals. This practice has made it easier for the company to address most of its challenges. Managers should “identify the best performance standards in order to achieve the best goals” (Reilly et al., 2011, p. 78). Our company has also combined different functions in order to achieve most of its goals. This approach has made it easier for the company to become a leading player in its industry.
Leading
This function determines the success of many workplaces. Every manager ‘should be a professional leader” (Reilly et al., 2011, p. 86). Leadership is a powerful practice that encourages different employees to work hard. This practice also “mentors, empowers, and encourages different employ...
