Businesses have functional areas composed of departments, divisions or teams. Each department has employees who perform similar activities based on their expertise (Robbins & Coulter, 2005). For instance, the managerial staff is composed f a manager or a group of managers who carry out the function of administering other workers in the firm. Moreover, big business has separate departments that perform different functions. All these departments have differing levels of management. The most organizational, managerial structure consists of first line managers all the way to top managers. The low-rank managers perform the roles supervising the production process and supervising the workers. However, the higher level classified managers play the executive or financial roles and oversee the functions of other managers. The functional managers have roles of heading the departments in the organizations. They have the responsibility of planning, organizing, controlling and directing all the activities within their department.
A manager employs authority for effective problem solving, coordinating and monitoring the company’s resources by use of standard procedures as per the organizational policies (Robbins & Coulter, 2005). The manager uses all the managerial functions like leadership, control and planning to perform functions within the business successfully. The roles of a manager involve leading, directing and overseeing the company’s resources towards the enterprise’s policy objectives Roehl-(Anderson & Bragg, 2005). A manager handles the evaluation of the company’s performance, and other activities carried out within the firm. Moreover, he controls the deviations and other implementation plans to help the company perform and develop in proper shape. Moreover, he sets the company’s long-term and short-term operation conditions by designing the functions and by putting together the required resources for the business to prosper. He also avails the company resources when needed.
Human Resource and Management.
These are the functions concentrated towards the workers within the company. The human resource managers have a role in the formulation of policies and plans for employee compensation, recruitment, retirement, performance evaluation, training and research analysis. They perform their functions in aligning with the policies, goals and visions within the organization. Moreover, the human resource manager sets up teams that deals in the coordination of recruiting, training, designing advertisements with professional bodies who help in hiring workers (Gilley, 2005). The team also deals with the process of defining the available jobs within the organization, workers compensation structure, the position hierarchies and performance of individual employees within the company.
The Manager directs the team and department members in making sure the organization hires right employees, and they perform their duties at the right place and time depending on their job specification. He also leads the team to develop a clear compensation plan to each and every employee in their respective departments. Moreover, the resource manager performs the function of evaluating each workers performance and planning awards for the most active employees within the firm. It acts as a motivation plan, which encourages the employees to perform and carry out their duties within the company to their perfection.
Accounting, Finance, Law, and Economics
These departments act as the lifelines of the organization and require managers who have full expertise in the areas. The managers of these departments perform functions like planning about the financial sources as debts, loans, and business equity. The manager has a role in making decisions concerning the company future roadmap depending on the political, economic, national and international situations affecting the organizational operations. The manager requires knowledge of the government and business law to help in the formulation of plans for accounting, finance, and economics. Moreover, he directs the available company’s resources to assist in the acquisition of funds and utilize them, according to the budget and policies of the firm. The manager performs the function of maintaining accounts and confirms the representations as per the guidelines of accounting. The manager has responsibility for checking the activities of the departments. It helps in determining the smooth running of all the activities to attain organizational goals and objectives about business ethics, the standard of accounting and the legal business requirement. Knowledge of the company law is also important in ensuring the company applies proper guidelines of the law necessary for setting up business ethics and policies.
Marketing, Research, and Operations
Efficient planning leading to business growth results from leverage. It means the acquisition of talented employees, processes and practical operation structure that serve as a vast number of profitable clients. For big companies, maximizing these leverages require the attention of kill time maintenance managers. Managers possessing favorable action, research, and marketing skills needs to have good planning skills. These departments thus need managers thought to have the knowledge of first-hand information relevant to research and collection of data related to performance (Prevodnik & Biloslavo, 2009). The manager performs research related to demands in the market and deals in planning operations and market strategies in the future. The manager lead resources to acquire innovative market research and fruitful campaigns in marketing towards the provision of quality outputs. Participation in market research helps the manager create demand for the organizational products and services hence improve the sales.
