Conflict in work place if managed properly can be healthy to business as it fosters healthy competition. There are many potential sources of conflict that lead to detrimental effects among the team members. Any leader who is unfair to employees or also employee who is seen unbarring to fellow colleagues worsen working relationship. Poor communication also create conflict particularly when the supervisor gives unclear instructions that cause confusion among team members concerning roles and responsibilities. In many cases, workplace harassment such as racial and sexual harassment and other forms of discrimination enhances conflict (Li et al., 2005).
The current rapid trends in business environment has led to many organizations initiating changes to adapt. The employees who don’t adapt to such changes like implementation of new technology may become exceedingly stressed increasing chances of conflict within the organization. Furthermore, the team members may comprise of workers with different personalities especially when the company embraces workplace diversity. Different personalities may clash concerning certain issues and gossiping is known to deteriorate team members’ relationship. Lastly, consistent poor performance by employee leads to quarrels with the team leader. Subpar performance is known to stir conflict when employee is confronted by the supervisor and at times worker may be fired (Li et al., 2005).
