E-commerce refers to as the procurement and selling of the goods and services by employing the use of information technology. This feature is at times referred to as internet commerce. E-commerce involves information sharing in the business, business relationship maintenance and conducting the transactions of the business with the aid of telecommunication networks. It also involves communication integration and the management of data by the business. One of the ways of receiving payments in e-commerce is through a web portal that accepts payments from the buyers. However, there must be security measures put in place to avert any fraud that may affect the payment system. The security analyst needs to check all the security loopholes that may exist in the design of the database. When all this is put in place, cybercrime related frauds will be minimized by a big percentage. This will ensure the success of the business as it will not lose any money to the online fraudsters who have the tendencies of siphoning money from online payment systems.
E-payment system accepts payment in electronic form from the buyers in cases where online transactions are involved. In order to manage an E-payment system, there's need to create a databases where all the transactions will be stored. There's need to ensure security of the database and the payment system. Credit and debit cards have for very useful in making the online payments. The buyers give their credit and debit cards details and the amount is deducted from their account. This paper seeks to create a plan of the E-payment system and come up with ways of improving the security and safety of the database used to store the online transactions.
Plan of the payment system
The first thing in the plan is the design of the database to handle the online payment. The payment system web-based. In order to design the database, there's need to create a table. The table will have different fields. The major fields will be the id of the book which will be used as the primary key, the name of the book, the price of the book. The id of the book will be used as the reference whenever a customer makes payment to a book that he or she needs. The id will be given to the customer to make any follow up in case of any inquiries that need to be made on the payment. The price column will store the price of books in the database. This is the price that will be deducted from the account of the purchasing customer. The price will be exclusive of the shipping or delivery fee. The shipping fee will be added to to final price of the book. The delivery or the shipping fee will be stored in a different database and added to the price of the book when the customer checks out. The name of the book column will be used to store the name of the book. This will enable the custom to identify the books. The names will be displayed in the website. The books will have a photo, a brief description, author and reviews from the clients who have bought and read the books.
A different table will be created to handle the orders. The table will contain various entities such as the name of the customer, the address, the email address, the phone number of the customer and the order id. The order id will be used for reference purposes whenever a client wants to make a follow up on a specific order. The order id will be a primary key used to identify a specific order. The email will be used for the communication with the client. The order details will be sent to the customer via the email. In the event that there is anything that needs the urgent attention of the client, a direct phone call will be made to the client. Client will be expected to create their account in the web portal where they can login and make their orders. This table will be used to store majorly the personal details of the customer so that when they make another purchase they do not have to fill their details again. The delivery of the goods will be done to the address given by the client after the payment is made CITATION Cha02 \l 1033 (Chaudhury, 2002).
Checking out system
The check-out system will be where the client makes the payment for the goods. There will be different payment options available for making the online payments. The major ones will be the use of the credit cards and the debit cards. The secure cards that will be accept are those from Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover among other vendors. PayPal will also be an accepted form of payment. When the customer visits the shop, he or she will have to swipe the cards at the point of sale. On the other hand, when a customer orders the books online, he or she will just fill the details of the card or transfer the funds via PayPal.
The checking out system will be very simple to avoid the any inconvenience caused to the customer. First, the client will login into his or her account using the details used during the registration process. After login, the customer will proceed to choose the book that he or she wants after which the system will check the availability of the book ordered in the system. Books that are out of stock will have a message bearing the words "sold out" hence the...
