Career management is sensible arrangement of one’s accomplishments and activities in the jobs an individual undertakes in life for better accomplishment, development and economic stability. It is a consecutive procedure that begins from an understanding of oneself and includes work-related awareness. Below is my ten years Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Timely (SMART) goals subdivided into short-term goals that is what I want to accomplish in one years’ time and in five years’ time. My long term goals are to be attained in ten years’ time. Starting with the short term goals those that I will achieve within one year, first I want to complete my certificate this will equip me with adequate skills and enough knowledge to use in the job market. The goal is obviously attainable since I have already enrolled in school and I have met all the requirement to earn the certificate. Some factors that might hinder the completion of my certificate is economic fluctuations where sometimes finances are not enough to pay for school fees and to cater for my personal needs.
Second is gaining a new skill, many companies in the world are considering people with a variability of abilities and talents. The more dissimilar your ability is the better chances you have of exciting your potential employers. Learn how departments related to my skills and others how they work will be my other short term goal. This will help me contribute more to the company and increase my rating reviews. Learning how my working character affects various departments, I can alter work conducts and make other divisions function well. I can also make one of your advance goals to plan a few hours to spend with each department. Availability of institution that offers courses on various skills is an advantage as I have a variety to choose and enrol in a reputable institution. Threats to this goal is political instability as it sometimes affect learning institutions therefore unforeseen circumstances in politics are a threat.
Boosting my networking skills. To network with people and grow inspiration will make and halt my capability to develop and reach my career objectives. By networking I mean more than just talking to people I work with. It will be about evolving public and specialised contacts with those I can discuss visions and information. Having friends and who we can chat with will help me develop my networking skills. Access to social media is an added advantage since I can connect with people all over the world and exchange important information that will improve my career. Having conversations with friends and family will help me have confidence even to talk with people in power and influencers of my career and this will open up more opportunities in the job market.
Internship with large companies. One of my short term goals is to get internship in large companies in order to acquire working experience. Whether paid or unpaid internship will equip me with necessary knowledge in my career path. Many employed people who start as interns end up being employed in the same company, this might also happen to me. After getting the connection with influencers internships may open up and take that opportunity to get my career experience.
Five years plan will entail the following. First, asking for feedback from managers and workmates how others perceive me is very important in my career because I will strive and be a respected associate of the team. Setting a goal and checking in with some co-workers every quarter will help me improve in my skills. Co-workers should be able to deliver helpful response, containing what you can progress and where you shine. Improving performance metrics that measures activities and behaviours concerning overall performance. Performance metrics will show my efficiency and having positive efficiency will help even in getting a promotion in the company. Threats may arise from co-workers who might give wrong feedback concerning me. One might also give wrong information due to hatred and fear of being demoted from his/her position. Some managers might also fear competition of their position from lowly paid employees’ hence getting wrong or false feedback.
Requesting for a promotion in the company. Once my performance in the company is highly rated I will then apply for a promotion. A position that have more duties will help me acquire new skills then continue to improve my career. After being ready for a advancement, I will make a list of assignments I have completed and discuss with the manager and their influence in the business.
