The term Human Resource refers to a group of individuals that consist of the workforce of any given organization. Another name that can at times be refered to it is "Human Capitalâ€. In simpler terms, it can be defined as the entire knowledge that employees of a given organization possess and contribute towards achieving the business goals of the organization. From the term Human Resource, Human Resource Management is the professional business function that oversees the entire organization manpower.
1 Role of a Human resource Manager
One of the most important function of a Human Resource manager in an organization is to advise the management team on how strategically oversee or manage the employees as business resources. This can be achieved through recruiting new employees as well as by coordinating the employees’ benefits. Nevertheless, the Human Resource Manager is responsible of coming up with new training and development strategies for the entire Human workforce of the organization. In this manner, it can be easily concluded that the Human resource Manager is an example of a consultant responsible to oversee the effective running and collective moral among the employees of an organization towards achieving the business goals.( Freathy, P. 1998)
2 Human Resource Management strategy for a Retail Store
There are three common strategies of the Human Resource Management when it comes to retail store. These strategies are namely:
1 Ensure the commitment of the workforce
2 Ensure a flexible and innovative working practice among the employees
3 Ensure there is a very high quality of work through frequent training and development of the employees
By achieving the above strategies, this will ensure that the Human Resource of a retail store will have that competitive advantage since it is the skills as well as the behaviours of the staff that are key to the success of an organization. For a retail store to be successful, it is essential for the Human Resource Management to come up with a strategy that will allow them to identify, employ, develop highly skilled and competent working personnel.( Heizer, J. H. 2014)
3 Methods to improve human resource function at a retail store
There are several methods through which the human Resource department can contribute towards the success of a Retail Store. This can be through improving its training and development strategies so as to ensure having skilled workforce by the end of the program. Having competent and skillful workforce in a retail store will promote growth and save a lot of time help in managing finances appropriately. Another way through which the Human resource department can contribute towards success of a retail store is by improving the recruitment procedure. Comprehensive and well strategized recruitment procedure will help in making sure that the new recruits are well prepared and competent enough for the job. The skills required for a specific role are met and that will in return improve in terms of the output of the retail store. Issues such as nepotism in places of work are to be shunned away and always go for the most suitable and most competent personnel for the specific role.
Coming up with goal oriented policies and regulations can be a way to ensure that the human resource department at large is contributing to the success of the retail store. Policies that will keep the employees focused towards achieving their business goals will be of much help and importance to the business. The department should ensure that every employee remains tuned and focused towards achieving their personal business goals and on the other hand that will ensure the growth of the business.( Zhang, J. 2010)
