Motivation is a very crucial aspect in any organization as it determines the behaviors of people in the firm. The leader must first be motivated to motivate others in the organization. Employees are motivated in numerous ways considering that people are from varying cultures, religions as well as backgrounds (Jensen, 2018). For different cultures, the factors of motivation are different which is key for the leader to understand when dealing with the employees. Some of the benefits achieved when there is a motivated workforce is low absenteeism levels, productivity is better, staff turnover levels are low and improved quality of products and services offered. In this paper, the main focus is on the difference between the culture in China and the culture in the United States as well as how the differences influence the types of incentives a firm might offer to motivate its employees.
In China, understanding the motivation culture is beneficial to an investor as they will be in a better position to respect the culture and traditions of the Chinese when handling employees. One, developing relationships with people is one of China’s holistic culture. The other motivation culture in China is respecting the tradition and workers look to people who were in the past for an example of how they ought to interact and act. The Chinese value education as well as others report that learning is highly appreciated and this can be a motivation factor for Chinese employees. Growth opportunities is another motivation factor in China for workers. Privacy is also another motivation factor for Chinese employees. In the United States, individuals are more appreciated than groups as seen in China. The structure is flatter in the United States where every employee gets an opportunity to access those at the highest level in an organization. In the United States, independence of offspring is highly appreciated and as an investor it is key to understand this to treat all employees individually (Casey & Robbins, 2018).
