Introduction
A person analysis is one part of a needs assessment. The needs assessment is a three-part process that determines the training needs that individuals require to accomplish given tasks. A needs assessment consists of organizational need analysis, job need analysis, and person need analysis (Jackson & Schuler, 2015). This essay will analyze the person analysis assessment part of the needs assessment to highlight its main components, the steps through which it can be conducted, and a practical example showing its relevance.
Person Analysis
A person analysis determines whether an employee needs specific additional training to handle a given task. After it has been determined that additional training is necessary, the specific training and the best person to receive the training is then decided upon (Jackson & Schuler, 2015). To perform a person analysis, the organisation needs to assess the existing level of knowledge of the potential trainee, his/her learning style, the organizational changes that call for the training, and who the trainer will be (Macalister, 2012). These factors are of vital importance because a successful person analysis depends on a careful assessment of the aforementioned factors (Macalister, 2012).
For instance, in a call center scenario, an organisation may realize that the call center’s performance in terms of number of complaint calls, customer satisfaction, and cost of calls needs adjustments to make the call center more effective, professional and sensitive to customer’s needs. To achieve this goal, the call center would need to retrain some employees. At this point, a person analysis becomes essential. To determine the best individual to receive the training, the criteria name d above applies. The organisation would need to look into the existing training level of the employee, their learning style, and the projected changes, among other things (Macalister, 2012).
