Twitter Acquisition
The news of Elon Musk's buying Twitter has been highly debated. Innovation, most of the time remarked assiduously unconventional in style, was received with equal excitement and skepticism upon Musk's takeover of the giant social media platform.
One of the most salient business decisions he made was rebranding Twitter to "X," which would have revamped it from only being a microblogging platform. Although this rebranding change was quite ambitious, redescribing Twitter as a multi-purpose social media site elicited really disoriented responses because people found it confusing (Smith, 2023). As many have said, especially new users, it is always hard to get used to; some felt it lost the very essence of Twitter during this transition.
Another important change was the introduction of a paid subscription model, "Twitter Blue," which includes additional features for users at a monthly fee. This was a sundry effort to increase income streams with less dependence on advertising. However, the first rollout met backlash since value propositions were not excellently communicated, and it felt like core features were being turned into a monetizable product. By so doing, it gave the beneficiaries of this new technology an enhanced user experience while setting some long-time users aghast over what appeared to be compromising the accessibility of the platform (Jones, 2023).
