A working environment could be elucidated as a region where duties are executed. It may include a geographical location or the immediate surrounding such as an office building or a construction site. A working environment also includes the psychological environment that helps employees to conduct their duties effectively. For instance, a healthy working environment improves on the health and welfare of employees. On the contrary, a hostile working environment reduces the productivity of employees through elements such as harassment and underpayment. It is notable that several organizations strive to promote healthy working environments. Examples of such organizations include CVS Caremark and the Johnson and Johnson Company. This paper discusses the working environment in CVS Caremark and the Johnson and Johnson organizations.
Johnson and Johnson Company has the words “inspires and unites the people of Johnson and Johnson” written on their information portal (Johnson and Johnson, 2014). The purpose of the aforementioned words is to unite all their employees towards a common mission. It is notable that over 128,000 people that work for the company. These people are motivated to engage in research and development because unity is the key to promoting research and development. Additionally, each employee is provided with a common set of values, which serves as the foundation for employee responsibilities (Johnson and Johnson, 2014). The organization also believes that basic principles and growth drivers create an exclusive environment for everyone. As a result, Johnson and Johnson ascertains the health and quality of life for its employees. This is done using health insurance plans, retirement, and pension plans. It follows that every worker reports on duty with a promise of a bright future. Additionally, expected salary increments and health plans are highlighted on their Employees Benefits Plans.
CVS Caremark also promotes an ample working environment for its employees. For instance, the company believes on a written code of conduct, which applies equally to all employees. It is crucial to highlight that all employees must ensure that their workmates are comfortable, which promotes a friendly working environment for all employees (CVS Caremark, 2014). It follows that the organization expects their employees to maintain high standards of personal ethics. This applies to all employees regardless of whether an employee is a manager or a casual employee. CVS Caremark also has an initiative that sponsors voluntary 401(k) savings plans (CVS Caremark, 2014). The plan covers each employee that qualifies for the plan. Postretirement benefits and life insurance benefits to retirees are also provided. The management believes that the motivational impact of such a program is immense.
