INTRODUCTION
Kakibei Secondary School is an inclusive high school which endeavours to recognise and meet the needs of the individual student. Our practice is characterised by;
* High expectations of student behaviour and achievement
* A commitment to high quality teaching
* Putting students, their learning and welfare at the centre of our decision making
* Allowing students to be involved in shaping and improving their school, to grow in self-confidence and to learn how to lead others
* Maintaining a safe and friendly community to which all can contribute and feel a part
* Being totally committed to partnerships with other schools and providers.
Our mission is to provide an environment in which all learners can excel and are excited, independent that motivate and help one another.
The Aims of our school according to the are:
* To introduce and embed the ‘spirals of enquiry’ approach to teaching and learning, thereby improving outcomes for all students including identified special groups like those with disabilities.
* Continue to promote and develop our broad and balanced curriculum by supporting teachers to use the outdoor spaces each week for at least half a day.
* For students to build a personal learning journal each year, which reflects them as a learner across the curriculum and allows them through one on one conversations with their teachers to recognize their strengths and articulate their next steps.
THE CORE TO OUR SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT PLAN
The basis to our school development plan is a planning cycle that revolves around a central core.
It consists of the school’s mission, vision and fundamental aims, objectives, administration and management, academic progress and equality.
The priority targets in this SDP are grouped under the development areas of:

CURRICULUM
To develop and implement a school-wide curriculum that enables all students to achieve our mission and objectives.
Target 1
All written curriculum will be vertically and horizontally articulated and documented
Expectations of the written curriculum and related documentation will be explicitly outlined.
Target 2
The taught and assessed (learned) curriculum will adhere to the highest of international standards ensuring all students are challenged and have the opportunity to succeed
Development of a deliverable continuum of learning in IT which is designed to raise the capacity in students, parents and staff to use IT more effectively.
Target 3
As an inclusive community school, the school curriculum will meet the needs of the diverse population we serve.
The three curriculum pathways in the secondary school will have been outlined, well
supported, aligned to exit outcomes and shared with the community in the form of a single document that makes explicit the manner in which the various pathways to graduation are delivered at the school.
A review of the student protective curriculum will result in a strengthening of the safety and well-being (physical and emotional) of all students through the building of an integrated, guaranteed and viable learning plan for the wellbeing of all students.
Target 4
The school learning environment will be characterized by respect and understanding and will support the holistic developmental growth of students in line with the mission.
Behavioral expectations will be well understood and consistently and effectively implemented in a manner which is aligned with the school mission, and supports student learning through the dispositions of each learner’s profile.
Target 5
The school will foster international mindedness and global citizenship through a
curricular and co-curricular program which supports the school mission to support
students in making choices to contribute to communities (inquire, inspire and impact)
Student ‘action’ and ‘service’ is a successful vehicle for delivery of the mission.
Target 6
The school will ensure that all programs and related practices are fully in accordance with the mission and serve the needs of the school community.
The school awards will be reviewed within the framework based on a program driven by the school mission.

Implemented in the day to day running of the school. These policies keep on changing depending on the needs and the changing environment.

Pastoral care
Target
Students will be given a conducive environment to grow holistically. This includes counseling in the face of adversities, religious sessions for spiritual nourishment and entertainment.
Guidance/remedial provision
Target
Sessions for students to seek further assistance on areas of their weaknesses in various subjects will be created. Students will also be able to seek guidance on activities outside academics that are very pertinent to their personal development. Such matters as social relationships, drug abuse and peer pressures.
School and community relationship
Target
The school will always have a positive social responsibility to the immediate community. This will be demonstrated by the school taking part in community development projects like tree planting.
Time tabling/formation of classes
Target
A well-structured timetable and the formation of classes for the purpose of clarity.
Subject choices and examination levels

The choice of subject combinations based on the curriculum for the senior classes. Different levels of examination setting are outlined.
Leadership and Management
To actively support, promote and ensure the successful implementation of the
school's projects and strategic goals
The management continuously builds link with all the stakeholders through frequent consultations on policy matters, streamlining all teaching frameworks and sharing good practices. The management reviews what is best for learners to grow holistically in different environments especially in light of increased learning pressures and lack of external support from parents and guardians. Again, the management ensures continuity in strengthening the quality assurance procedures through listening and attending to the concerns raised by the students, the teaching staff and even the non-teaching staff.
The Board of management shall effectively lead and support community efforts in support of the long term sustainability of the school.
The Board members will effectively lead and galvanize community support around an effective capital campaign in support of the school projects.

Student learning and well-being is supported by an effectively distributed leadership
structure that enables the successful implementation of school programs and initiatives.
The administration team structure will be fully understood by all stakeholders and work effectively in support of the mission, student learning and well-being.

The Professional Growth and Evaluation Model fosters professional learning and
accountability
The “Evaluation Pathway” will be clearly defined and communicated to academic staff so that optimum teaching and learning is assured, providing adequate access to the mission for all students.
The system by which staff may apply for academic-related promotion of students to the next class will be effectively rolled out.
The various professional growth and evaluation systems for academic staff, administrators and support staff will be written up in a single document, outlining the way in which the program contributes to staff and student growth.
Target 3
Effective and Collaborative professional structures support school staff in achieving their potential in delivery of the school mission
Staff collaboration time will balance whole-school and SDP-driven initiatives with other initiatives emerging at the grade/departmental level.
Personal Development, Behaviour and Welfare of Students
The management ratifies and integrates the changes in the curriculum from the ministry.
Policies on such issues as drugs and substance abuse control, motivational speaking and leadership seminars for student leaders are fostered towards improving the well-being of students to raise awareness on various issues and promote personal development and overall behaviour change.
