Module 2 Discussion: Key Concepts Student’s Name Institutional Affiliation Course Professor’s Name Due Date Module 2 Discussion: Key Concepts I have learned many things that I am not likely to forget in the future, such as the importance of teachers partnering with families and the community to promote healthy child development. Parents trust teachers to help their children achieve different developmental milestones and continue to grow. In contrast, teachers trust parents will foster effective growth when they are in charge of children at home or when not in school. However, either party may be limited if they fail to engage each other. Partnering with families may entail conducting effective home visits. It ensures that teachers can monitor children at home and learn from their parents. They can actualize the power of observation to understand how children behave in different environments before determining key takeaways to take from these situations. Secondly, I have learned the value of understanding how to enact equity without letting some children feel different or disturbed by the fact that they are different. Amy Oulton (2018) argues that societal perceptions of disability highly affected her because of her weight, which limited her perception of life at the time. Her statement underlines things that people with different conditions and disabilities encounter. She suggests that people sometimes hold the notion that people with disability do not have fun because of their condition. Her TED Talk underlines the essence of changing how people talk about disabilities. The reading and completion of activities underlined the value of taking action when trying to influence a positive learning environment for all people. When going through the TED Talk, Amy Oulton showed some people are not against people with disabilities, but they hold certain notions or stereotypes. Therefore, to overcome such limited notions, it is paramount to engage with these people. It is imperative to continually seek to learn about people and be willing to share their views, perceptions, and visions. Secondly, the activities underline the value of educators going the extra mile when trying to teach and help children. Some institutions that offer free and voluntary personalized home visits meet the different needs of children, build a trusting relationship with parents, and remain culturally respectful (ETP Illinois, 2020). Home visits improve the child's understanding, which effectively enhances the child's fortunes. Children will have many people looking after their needs, individuals they can understand and relate with. One key takeaway is the value of understanding how to include people with disabilities without making them feel inconvenienced. The learning suggests that most children with special needs will be placed in institutions with other individuals without needs (Wisconsin DPI, 2008). These children will notice their differences and may feel inferior or insecure about their needs. Therefore, caregivers should regulate the learning environment to include children with special needs while paying attention to their specific needs. Caregivers should include individualized programs since the needs of children will differ, but they should also develop a learning environment where all children are included. Therefore, it is critical to pay attention to individual and collective needs of the children. Most of the learning feels surreal primarily because it relates with most of my past experiences. For instance, when I was in Kindergarten, my teacher used to make home visits. She could come, talk to my parents, and later watch me when playing or taking part in different activities. I grew fond of her, and it was easier for me to talk to her while in school. Whenever I had issues, I approached and told her about them. She loved working with children and could even request my parents invite her to group plays. Secondly, I have worked with a child with autism, and I found a way of engaging her in class while at the same time looking at her individual needs. I would take more time with her when dealing with writing and reading. I would create more time for her to avoid taking more time in a single class. I will apply many of the things I have learned in the future. For instance, I will implement the approach of home visits and partnering with parents and communities when teaching and learning. Depending on their needs, I will plan home visits for specific children and use what I know to help them develop. Secondly, partnering with parents may entail engaging them in the teaching process.
