The application of technology in the education system has revolutionized the way students learn. Technology has influenced high school education in many ways. It has influenced teacher-student relationship and thus the process of learning.
First, technology has enhanced global access to education through the internet. Students enjoy the flexibility of time and location in their quest for knowledge. Students can apply for online courses, learn through online libraries, and even graduate from schools that are thousands of miles away (Kim, 2015). They can interact with other students through video conferencing and exchange ideas across the globe.
Secondly, use of technology in high schools has led to more affordable education through a reduction in the cost of instruction. For instance, Kim (2015) notes that schools that offer online courses do not incur infrastructural costs for library construction and maintenance, classrooms and dormitories. Online courses can address an unlimited number of students. Traditional libraries and classes are replaced by online libraries and studying at home respectively.
Thirdly, technology has changed the teacher-student role in the learning process. Kim (2015) points out that the student actively participates in knowledge acquisition process as opposed to the traditional method of instruction that perceived the student as a passive recipient.
