Fluency is crucial in learning a new language or a given subject published in a specific language. A fluent reader can engage with language and generate understanding effortlessly and smoothly. It facilitates a focus on what a text is communicating. Helping students to build fluency is crucial in facilitating their connection of personal background knowledge to the text they are reading. I chose to work with my son, who is in 5th grade, to devise steps to attain fluency.
While working with the 5th-grade student, I utilized guided practice. For example, I would read two or three sentences from a story with a tone and emotion that matches the phrases. After this, asking the learner to read the same sentences back to me and correct them as we cover the entire text offers a great opportunity for practice.
