AbstractThe brain is a delicate and significant part of the body. The brain has several parts that all have different functions and due to its soft and gelatinous nature, the brain is protected within the skull. Sudden mechanical force on the head can result in a traumatic brain injury where parts of the brain are subjected to damage. This eassy explains an overview of the traumatic brain injury. The paper gives a summary of how traumatic brain injuries occur and how the body system can recover from such injuries.
Overview of the Traumatic Brain Injury A traumatic brain injury is a dysfunction of the brain that arises due to a mechanical force hitting the head. Due to the soft and gelatinous nature of the brain, the collision leads to damage on the impacted part of the brain, as well as, rotation of the different parts of the brain at different speeds. This varying rotation of parts of the brain leads to the diffuse axonal injury where there is tearing and shearing of nerve tissues of the brain. There are secondary effects that arise because of the impact that lead to an increase in the severity of the injury.
