In the past one decade, the American Teachers Unions largely contributes to the fall of the American schools. They have the obligation to advocate for equal treatment of the teachers’ rights from the government, but lately, they have interrupted the daily operations of the American schools. Further, they have a vital role to equip their members with appropriate and up-to-date knowledge and gives resources to members that would be difficult to afford (Loveless, 2000).
Besides, they usually protect the weak and non-performing teachers; as a result, it becomes hard for the American district schools to implement the proposed changes of enhancing a friendly relationship between the teachers and students. Additionally, they are meant to protect the jobs and wages of their members, but its members have to pay a certain premium to foster its administration. They punish and advocate the replacement of non-performing teachers to maintain the set education standards. Finally, it allows desirable teaching jobs to teachers based on seniority assignment. It also insist on a factory model of payment whereby the teachers layoffs are based on seniority, for instance, the junior teachers are laid off during tough times despite being the best performers.
