The prototype development process was premised on these user enhancement objectives, albeit through iteration on design and ergonomic specifications of the walker that affects everything from the materials used for the back brace, the wheels, the walker, and the fittings that join all fundamental components of the walker for operation. The requirement analysis phase involved brainstorming on the design and performance requirements of the walker. It involved primarily seeking opinions from one of the team member's relative who uses a walker as well as his friends on points of distress. This led to establishing the need for the wheels and the back brace. Step 2: Quick design. This stage involved the development of simple 2D & 3D designs of the walker prototype to give a rough idea of how the system will look and some parameters. It was used as a stepping-stone to the prototype. The quick design of the prototype is shown below: Step 3: Building the prototype. Information from the quick design, especially the prototype's 3D design, is used to build the actual walker design. The quick design helped establish parameters such as the material of the walker supports, the wheels, the back brace, and the types of fittings used in the product. Step 4: User evaluation. The developed prototype was tested by the team's relative that was responsible for sharing improvements on current walker designs. Our team's relative served as the client evaluating the walker prototype, giving feedback on whether the prototype meets the objectives- reducing friction to make walking easier, the back brace for supporting a user's back, and overall making the walker easier to use. Step 5: Refining the prototype. The feedback gathered faulted the prototype's ergonomics- the back brace made the walker heavier and thus slightly more difficult to use. The design modification at this stage was slightly reducing the size of the back brace and slightly enlarging the wheel to make it more efficient. Step 6: Final prototype. Re-evaluation by the 'client' and performance testing led to the development of the final prototype, shown in the figure below. This is the intended prototype to be introduced in the market.
