A sequel on "Inbound" by Edith Pearlman Name Institution Introduction The short story "Inbound" by Edith Pearlman apprehensions, a seven-year-old girl, named Sophie a funny character as revealed in the book. The parents had dragged her and second-year-old Lilly, her sister to go and visit Harvard where they were lecturers. Pearson, the author of the short story, reveals the mother to be shameless for allowing such a happening for her daughter though it outwardly comes up with lots of love and emotions (Pearlman, 2016). As Sophie walked along the streets of the isolated beautiful land of lakes and the thirty-second state of the United States, Minnesota the most populous state, where this family lived. Since the state is characterized to be a central business place, industrial and education center, Sophie met with several people who were in there run to and from their daily activities in either of these highlighted aspects of life. While crossing the busy streets of the land of lakes, Sophie met with unfamiliar people who she found to be amazing since, at her tender age, she was never used to strolling around town. She was used to linking up with relatives, neighbors and her schoolmates back in her school. Sophie knew the famous place where she had severally attended with the friend’s family who gave the kids a ride as they came to shop for foods for their pets. At this time of the day, the extreme temperatures of the town were somehow building up though there was a cool breeze that ran through the busy streets of the city. Sophie found everything that came to her glance to be interesting. There was this somewhat huge man who had hair all over the exposed part of his body. The man had long beards that caught the attention of Sophie, and she could not help staring at her. By looking at the man’s face, he seemed to be lost or inquisitive about something and was so desperate for something. Sophie’s line of thinking was never wrong; the man wanted to know the directions to the pet store. "Hello little one," said the hairy man, who by the look he had a protruding forehead, "I am lost and am wondering whether you could please show me the directions to the famous pet store?" Sophie had previously done so well in her formative test before the annual closure of the schools that tested on writing; the test was on directions (Pearlman, 2013). She knew that when giving directions, one had to give landmarks like iconic buildings, house numbers, the name of the streets among others. "Ok the pet store is located in the valley, to the right," Sophie said without even having to figure it out so well since she had been to the place severally. Having pointed in the direction of the pet store, she continued to have a walk in the busy, crowded streets of this beautiful land of lakes town as she had a bit of the pop cans and peppered Crips that she had carried in her small purse as they left their home. Anonymously, the huge bearded man was plucked by a huge flash of shadow that grabbed him off the pavements. Sophie’s brains reminded her that the bearded man might be a giant, that their literature teacher back in school had always told them. The giants and the dragon were believed to be living in the thickets of the famous River Minnesota. Sophie was a lover of literature; hence she could remember about this irrespective of the high levels of fear that were engulfing her. She realized that the thing that plucked the hairy man was a dragon. Sophie dropped her purse out of fear and joined the people around her in the pavement who were shouting at the dragon to let the hairy man free and walk away. Sophie did not know the man but out of sympathy she cried out so loud, and one would suggest that the man was his father. Sophie came back to her senses she realized that she had only given directions to a huge dragon and she fainted on the pavement as she tried to exit from the crowd that was building up with lots of shouting that attracted the cops. Sophie lay on the pavement aimlessly. There was a senior woman who stood next to where the little girl lane. Having seen Sophie who lay on the ground helplessly, she called the police who were busy trying to calm down the noisy crowd. The police came to her rescue offered first aid to her, the help by the cops helped her return to her senses and later on drove off and took her to the neare...
