Antigone: Tragedy
Creon is a leader who is full of pride. He is a leader who is detached from the people he rules over. In this play, Creon bears a bigger tragedy than his niece Antigone. A chain of events that began with the death of his two nephews Polynices and Estocles. Creon decides to honorably bury Estocles and leaves Polynices to be eaten by wild animals. His niece who is a sister to Polynices defies his edict and buries her brother. When he decides to lock up Antogone in the tomb, he doesn’t listen to any advice. Later Teiresias the prophet convinces Creon to set Antigone free. When he gets to the tomb and opens it, he finds Antigone, his niece has already hanged herself. Bethroned to his son Haemon and unknown to Creon he commits suicide on learning that his fiancée is dead. Haemon’s mother who is Creon’s wife, Eurydice is found dead on assumption that she has committed suicide on learning that her son died. He had lost his mother and brother earlier on who were married to each other.
Even though Antigone also suffers tragic death, she is somewhat anticipating it when she says that "if I die for it, what happiness!" having disobeyed the King’s edict. Creon’s tragedy is much more bigger. As a king full of pride, he listens to no one. Too proud that
