Appropriate use of Language for Effective Communication
The individual’s ability to communicate to others effectively and express self is an imperative human need since it enhances our interaction. It is through proper use of language that people can express themselves and share their feelings and emotions, an aspect that improve our social life. It is evident that us we developed our understanding of the world and based on our upbringing and education, our perspective as we communicate tends to differ. Engaging with other people through interaction remains to be a crucial part of healthy human living. Thus, it important to ensure that we apply language in a more accurate model that ensures we are understood when we express ourselves. Being mindful of the language one uses when communicating ensure that it fit the context and the situation, and it’s paramount particularly as it impacts our perception and perspectives. Language is critical and especially when used in literature, for instance in the lame shall enter first the writer uses figurative speech which has to mean to the reader. Rufus, one of the main characters is suffering from a clubbed foot which is the writer's way to pass a message that his suffering may be due to this unfortunate condition, and could be the reason he is not willing to change for the better.
When language is applied effectively, it makes it possible for an individual to connect items being described. In the story, "the lame shall enter first" the reader is made to understand the issues at hand via the language in use. The story is told from a point of view of Sheppard who is unable to comprehend his son's predicament. Sheppard is unable to handle his son and finally hangs himself from frustration; the story clearly elaborates how communication can be efficient and prevent death. If Sheppard gave his son, Norton's ear and understood his concerns, he would not have taken his life, but he only realizes this when it’s too late. It makes it possible to create a vivid image or the situation being expressed. For instance, when one speaks of an elephant, there are possible ways in which an individual will visualize the word in their eye. Some will view the word in text form while other will see it from a visual perspective probably through color, context and even possibly via narrative if it’s provided. Such reaction is very important since it is primarily based on the word used by the speaker of the author. Thus, even if people consider themselves less visual, the term used to describe a particular situation influence their mental visualization of the same situation. Also, efficient use of language to describe a person dressing code forms an effective way of understanding such people values, beliefs, and values system, even before meeting them.
According to Julie Beck in the article titled "Life’s Storiesâ€, the author of most stories presents the facts of person’s life, and always strives to make the description of such person life resemble the outside narrative. Julie also notes that the way people uses language to tell their stories differ a lot based on understanding and mastery of the language used. Also, Julie highlights that when telling one’s story of how your become who you are, the story itself become part of the identity of the person you are. Although such stories do not just reflect individual’s personality, they tend to be more accurate in showing the real self of a person and who they are, especially when language is accurately used in the description.
Terms used by the author in their scholarly work has been noted to influence the people interest to read. When a book or an article is written is the well-executed structure that integrates language effectively, it prompts the reader to become more engrossed in such book or article. For instance, in the article titled "Can Reading Make You Happier? By Ceridwen Dovey, it is apparent that a reader is becoming interested in reading after realizing the fun associated with reading a well-written book. The interaction between the user and the therapist reveals that over the years, the reader was able to work his way through the books and was able to make new discoveries, as well as withstand the emotional and psychological problems. This reveals the impact of the written word in offering individual therapeutic effects, especially in the prisons, or circles of elderly people suffering from dementia.
In the article titled "How to Listen between the Lines: Anna Deavere Smith on the Art of Listening in a Culture of Speaking" by Maria Popova, it is evident that some people often use language as a mask. They then strive to create a language that appears to describe people effectively though it fails in most cases. However, the author has acknowledged that word has the power to become the most important doorway into the soul of a person, and to the heart of the culture. In the article, it has been noted that creation of the language tends to be fiction, and once we speak in that novel, it reveals the truth. However, it is the power of language that helps people to connect, relate with each and even socialize effectively.
However, in using the language, our ability to create reality by using fiction with language should be abused. This is because language is a reliable tool that we use to communicate efficiently and even to create reality. Thus, to abuse language by using it inaccurately is to lie and fray reality. In the article, it also indicated that we learn a lot of people that very moment when language fails them. Thus, people need to be more creative to communicate properly in a clear and precise manner. Creativity in communication is essential as it passes important messages for instance in the story, the lame shall enter first, the writer explains the predicaments of Rufus by suffering from the clubbed leg. Figures of speech are used such as telescope Rufus had bought Norton to expand his horizon; t
