However, in doing so, it has led to global warming, which is the most significant ecological problem regarding climatic change. Global warming is described as the emission of greenhouse gases caused by human activities. Consequently, the impact of global warming is broad. The sharp temperature rise is considered a significant impact. Secondly, the melting of polar ice caps and desertification are consequences of this ecological problem. For this reason, this paper aims to investigate the most effective eco-business strategies in tackling the issue of global warming. Added to this, the essay will examine the eco-institutions that are well equipped in solving this problem.
Eco-Business Strategies
In order to develop a sustainable method that will be less impactful to climatic change, it is essential to introduce a greening process in the manufacturing of food. As discussed by Gossling & Scott (2018, p.2071), greening processes for food standards have an advantage over the conventional bar in that there is reduced processing time coupled with less emission of carbon dioxide emission. In other words, there is less carbon footprint when processing foods. Alongside the advantages of introducing greening processes for food standards, various techniques come along with this greening process. As discussed by Butakova et al., (2019, p.4977), the technologies used include high-pressure processing, supercritical carbon dioxide, and electrotechnologies. Another emerging technology is solar food processing that is used primarily for providing good quality foods at meager fuel costs. The technologies mentioned above all use energy sources. However, Gossling & Scott (2018, p.2075) discusses non-conventional energy sources such as microwaves and ultrasound as green processing methods in food processing. With the constant improvement in technology, lasers and radio frequencies are essential technologies used in the food sector.
Consequently, using greening processes for food standards is essential in reducing the carbon footprint. The technologies that have been talked about, such as laser and solar food processing, use little fuel, meaning that there will be less emission of carbon dioxide. In the long run, the strategy used will bear the fruits of minor to no change in the climate.
Secondly, another eco-business strategy that can be used is conducting organic farming. This type of farming is the use of fertilizers of organic origin. There are many different fertilizers, such as green manure and bone meal. The use of this strategy has various advantages. Compared to inorganic farming, there is less use of pesticides, and also it ensures that there is little soil erosion. This means that the earth is maintained and can support crop rotation. Another reason why this strategy is well accepted because organic farming ensures that nitrate does not decrease into the groundwater. However, as discussed by Arora (2019, p.95), organic crops are more expensive by more than twenty-five percent than conventionally grown crops. However, this is the price that has to be paid to overcome the challenges of climatic change.
The reason to undertake this eco-business strategy is that research shows that the future of organic agriculture offers environmental benefits coupled with reduced prices for crops. Looking at the advantages that organic farming will bring and compounded by its most significant advantage in solving the issue of climatic change, there is every reason to stick with organic farming to reduce the climatic problems in the future.
Moreover, green production for solar energy is an essential eco-business strategy in tackling the issue of climate. Solar panels are well known for leveraging sunlight to make power. While there are various advantages with solar, there are still concerns over its production. As discussed by Hosseini & Wahid (2020, p.4110), there are significant environmental concerns, especially on the materials used to manufacture. Likewise, most solar panels are made of components that are toxic to the environment. For instance, Hydrofluoric acid is used to clean the panel and ensure maximum light has a tremendous environmental impact.
On the contrary, Hosseini & Wahid (2020, p.4120) states that sodium hydroxide can be used instead of hydrofluoric acid. Regarding maintaining solar panels, Hosseini & Wahid (2020, p.4125) states that less water is used to maintain solar panels. In estimation, around twenty gallons of water is used per megawatt-hour. This is less than the twenty thousand gallons of water used to process fossil fuels. On balance, green production of solar energy, such as determining the suitable ingredient, is necessary to ensure less impact on the environment.
Essentially, the main reason green production for solar energy should be considered is that there has been less focus on the production of solar panels and more on its use. If the focus is turned on the output, and the right things are used, then there is enough reason to believe that the environment will be safe.
Lastly, green goods for electric cars tackle the issue of climate. As discussed, how goods are made is significant to the environment. As discussed by Hensher (2020, p.265), while most cards produce significantly fewer emissions than most petrol cars, there is still a long way to go before most electric vehicles can become emission-free. At the moment, there is a lot of carbon footprint from making these cars. Coal is a huge factor in the production of goods for electric vehicles. For instance, there is an issue with charging when making electric charging ports. This means that there are always going to be carbon footprints. However, if this issue can be minimized, then the carbon footprint from electric vehicles will be much less, as discussed by Hensher (2020, p.270). At the same time, on average, a new electric vehicle has an emission of one hundred and eighty-nine grams. On the other hand, a new gasoline car has more than three hundred grams of carbon dioxide. In light of this, there is a need to have a consistent and reliable way of producing electric vehicles that can reduce the carbon footprint.
Most Promising Eco-Institution for Solving Climate Change
The first eco institution is the circular economy. A circular economy ensures that the climatic conditions remain the same and are sustainable for long periods. It does this by using various strategies to reduce and recycle waste instead of just throwing the waste. Indeed, there is a massive link between circular economy and climate mitigation. The most significant advantage of a circular economy, as discussed by Gallego, Chen & Mendoza (2020, p.260), is the fact that there is the mitigation of carbon dioxide emissions that emerge from the daily operation of industries and other sectors. In the industry sector, it has been estimated that there are many emissions. However, circular economy actions Gallego, Chen & Mendoza (2020, p.260) estimate that emissions will be cut by up to sixty percent.
Moreover, the climatic change adaptation can also be circular. For example, in the cities, how it is planned can impact the climatic condition of that area. For instance, a nature-based solution that integrates green infrastructure is essential in ensuring good ecosystem services. For example, in certain cities, such as in Stockholm, some trees provide a reduction of heatwaves (Gallego, Chen & Mendoza 2020, p.260). Also, for a city to be considered circular, it has to implement renewable resources and ensure that there are no unwanted by-products. There have to be green spaces, which ensures that the people are protected from heatwaves.
Implementing a circular strategy when building an environment is very important to ensure that climatic conditions are maintained. Aronoff et al., (2019) discusses the impact that rebuilding has on the environment. The greenhouse emission caused by disasters on a building is a lot. Therefore, it is necessary to build and rebuild buildings in a way that is going to limit the carbon dioxide footprint. A circular economy ensures that cities are resilient in the fight against climatic change. At the same time, circularity ensures a resilient future cut across the globe.
Secondly, the Green New Deal (GND) is another promising eco-institution for solving the issue of climate change. The Green New Deal helps solve the problem of climate change by calling for policies to be created, which will, in turn, enforce discipline in dealing with the issue. One of the areas that the Green New Deal has focused on is transportation. One of the areas that have a considerable carbon footprint is road expansion. However, with the Green New Deal in place, the issue of road expansion has been criticized, with efforts now being focused on maintenance. Maintenance will use less fossil fuel instead of expanding roads which will have a huge environmental impact (Aronoff et al., 2019).
