Geoffrey Chaucer gives us a clear comparison of the medieval society with the modern society through his choice of characters that portray various characters that clearly bring this out in his Canterbury Tales. Though he wrote this in the past it clearly shows what is happening in the 21st century. He brings out themes like hypocrisy, greed and corruption that happens in the church which portrays the ills that are committed in the church. This is evident from the hypocrisy that is portrayed by Prioress and Monk through their acts .For instance the Monk doesn’t live traditionally a religious life but he believes in the need for modern lifestyle and Prioress greatest vow is to the St. Loy, saint of goldsmiths. Greed is clear where Friar brags that he is able to convince women to share their little pennies with him the monk is also gluttonous and greasy. Corruption is also evident when Prioress shows jewelry openly meaning that he doesn’t live a poor life. Therefore it is clear that the hypocrisy, greed and corruption are themes that are portrayed in the medieval society as well as the religious organizations in the religious societies in the present day.
Greed is clearly depicted in the work by Chaucer which is great sin that should not be in the church. In conclusion greed in the medieval society is clear in the modern society.
Vulgarity manifests itself through the greed that is depicted by the various characters who openly and physically manifest their clothing and their jewerelly. These shows that they have no respect for the believers and the church. But the people do not seem to care about these ill in the church as those involved represent the status quo. This openly depicted by the Prioress who openly show his jewerelly to the people. This shows that he doesn’t lead a poor life. In conclusion as vulgarity is depicted in medieval society the same case...
