However a problem can either be well and deterministic structured or ill structured(Dunn, 2012). One has to determine the nature of a problem in order to identify appropriate means and methods of handling them. According to Dunn (2012) the case study is a depiction of a typical ill structured problem. It illustrates a research process aimed at determining and evaluating safety and health risk aspects associated with mining. The research organizations aim at evaluating conflicting conditions and criteria affecting mining industries in order to propose suitable safety and risk management measures(Dunn, 2012). In the case study, the nature of conflicting criteria is intense since the severity and the probability of the risk defines the wrong pattern. Despite the fatality and the risk of black lung disease being a known and well researched factor, the data is not enough to make a consensus hence a necessity for additional research and data collection. The researches in the case study used group interviewing and content analysis methods to collect data and evaluate the research topic. The Questionnaires issued on stake holders, provided clear facts and knowledge of the risk situation in the mining industry.
