Drug abuse among teenagers
Introduction
The issue of drug abuse among the teenagers has become an area of concern in the society and the whole world as a whole. It is a problem that touches everybody in the society. In combating the issue, all the stakeholders should be willing to take part (Zosel et al., 2013). This paper aims to discuss the causes of drug abuse among the young people. The main reasons why youths indulge in the drug and substance abuse include lack of parental guidance, peer pressure, too much freedom and influence of media.
Why are teenagers abusing drugs?
The first reason why teens abuse drugs is the lack of parental guidance. Many parents today have dedicated a lot of time to their jobs and ignore to spend time with their children. It is clear that most of the behaviors in children are cultivated through learning as they grow (Mitchell et al., 2013). Parents have insufficient time to mingle with their children and advise them on what is right and wrong. The action has led confusion among the children in determining what actions are good and bad. They, therefore, grow up indulging in any behavior that they feel is right for them. By teenagers being allowed to decide on what is right for them, many have involved in the practice of abusing drugs and other illegal substances.
