In the society today, we can see rapid changes that not only act as a promotion of the self-development but also demand the continuous development in the conformation of social strain and obedience (Kim, 1999). We have various forms of identity, and the most common ones are the different guidelines of the two kinds of people, the ones who do not conform to the harsh reality and those that always obey every command that comes to them.
People always like to feel like they, at least, belong to a group. They always identify themselves that they belong to a certain group. Most of them fear being rejected by those groups as they think that being in a group we enjoy some support and favors that cannot be seen when conforming alone(Steinberg, 2007). The desire to conform to a group is high since one can’t defend himself when he is singled out by the group as the only one opposing their decisions.
Conformity becomes a problem when the groups start to agree more and more as they progress in the discussion making the exaggeration of taking one side or another. It is believed that groups make ultimate decisions than the individuals, and this is called polarization whereby one cannot influence a group if he or she disagrees with them.
There is always tension between a need for conforming the social expectations that include the age and the motivation of maintaining the own individualism. This leads to internal conflicts and even crises of identifying their personality. Non-conformity is believed to be in its peak performance on the adolescence stage. People need to observe each step of such tendencies which therefore lead to the intention to suspend the syndrome of a strike of the mass character.
In brief, it is worthy to mention that in any circumstances, there will be people who will stand as individuals and according to the study; few numbers out of those will be with this stand until the end (Bascle, 2015).
