The story of Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous tragic love stories in history. The play tells the tale of two young star-crossed lovers caught in a bitter feud between their families, the Montagues, and the Capulets. As a result, their love is forbidden, and the couple is forced to take extreme measures to be together. While Romeo and Juliet are ultimately responsible for their actions, the play's events would not have been possible without the role played by their families and the larger society in which they lived.
