Critiques of Deontological theory
The deontology theory states that we are required morally to carry out ourselves in agreement with established rules and principles irrespective of the consequences of our actions. In 1788 Kant enunciated the secular deontological moral theory. In this theory the maxims governing the human actions were derived from human reasoning. It is a contrast to utilitarianism that advocated for a course of action based on the aftermath of the actions. It states that we are required to carry out our deeds in a way to come up with a positive outcome. It is similar to consequentialism that states that the course taken should be considerate to the consequence.
In the instance of the family hiding refugees Kant’s theory was not right since if the families had given out the refugees hide outs the consequences would have been grave. A typical example is where dictators of oppressed countries are slain or enslave for the better lives of the rest of humanity. In this instance Kant’s theory would have directed as to act otherwise. This would contradict the institutional laws and common sense though it would be morally right.
