Currently, there are ongoing debates and intense lobbying on the economic ramifications of the proposed border wall. According to US Department of Homeland Security, the construction of the border wall will cost an estimated amount of $ 70 billion and an annual maintenance cost of $ 150 million. Both security experts and the economists have questioned the long-term importance of building the wall at the expense of vital services experiencing a budgetary deficit in the US annual budget. Since the US taxpayers will incur the cost of using the wall, it is necessary to examine the long-term economic implications of the project against the improvement of critical services in the United States.
