Garden City, Kansas will be experiencing a warm morning with the highest temperature at 91 0F and will drop to 72 0F in the afternoon bringing in a cold moist evening with a 96% chance of thunderstorms and scattered rain showers. Garden City is an area that experiences dry lines during spring. The dry line is the separation of the dry air coming from the west with the moist air blowing from the east. This separation causes the occurrence of thunderstorms. However, thunderstorms do not occur every time there is a dry line. This is because another requirement for a thunderstorms is a high temperature of dewpoint which is at keast 75 0F. Dewpoint is a temperature where the air no longer has the capacity to hold water vapor. This vapor then turns into its liquid form such as clouds, dew or fog. In the situation given, there is a chance for thunderstorms to happen due to the delineation of moist air and dry air, but this probability is at 96%.
