Gender Inequalities in the UK Job Market
Gender inequality has remained prevalent in the United Kingdom despite efforts to reverse the situation since the 19th century. The women are not given equal encouragement, involvement, and recognition compared with their male counterparts. In essence, the cultural and sexism stereotype of women being restricted to the cult of domesticity has undermined both genders' complementarity in boosting the economy and raising children. Women are discriminated against based on sexism with invisible and biased barriers that render women less capable and deserve less remuneration and wages in the workplace, notwithstanding the academic levels (Wilson, 2016). It is immutably clear that disparities exist during employment and workers' promotion based on gender, particularly in the UK among the European countries.
According to Fortin et al. (2017), there is prejudice against salaried employees where male workers are promoted and awarded higher earnings based on their gender in the United Kingdom. Women receive less despite the same qualification, achievements, abilities, and experience. Glass ceiling impact has led to disparities and contributed to inequality in the workplace. The glass ceiling factors are unfounded and conventional and impact how promotion and pay raises are carried out (Wilson, 2016). It is not only in salary determination that gender stereotype plays a negative impact, but it also affects workplace cooperation and partnership. The imbalance in employment mostly favors the men workers.
