Impact of First Impression Student's Name Institution Introduction The notion that first impression leaves a long lasting and, in some ways, indelible imprint on the mind has artificially been propagated by the televised entertainment media. The scientific community too have also given importance to this peremptory belief. Experiment and medical examination of the brain's reaction gives credence to this dogmatic perception. However, this presumption might not be true all the time due to a number of issues. Although the first impression counts but it is surely not a perfect indicator of the individual's true self. To come to an immediate conclusion about human nature is not ideal as a number of factors could inhibit the other individual. Therefore, the first impression is important for the point of view that it should bring the two individuals together into some kind of agreement. As interaction increases the preconceived judgments can easily and simply be found out and tested to be a fallacy or not. Most often than not, over a period of time, frequent meeting often reveal a nature which will be in complete contrast to what was originally perceived. This can be factually proven with the statistic on divorce rate. Therefore, my argument is first impression may or may not change with equal likelihood. First Impression – A Critique All of our lives are filled and surrounded by an incredible diverse sets of people away from our homes. Some individuals are more forthcoming while others are more straight-forward and unassuming in their character. However, leaving a good first impression depends on largely on whether the person is shy or not on a given point of time. Being introvert and extrovert also, to some extent, depends on the circumstance in which a person finds himself. For example, some people might feel subdued in a crowded environment and many, therefore, feel the need to be more reserved and measured in their outlook. Hence, these individuals will present a true account of themselves only when find themselves in a convenient atmosphere. On the other hand, there are people who are unperturbed by their surrounding and will often try to mingle with people. Nonetheless, this does not mean that these individuals are better than others (Rigoglioso, 2005). Further, the way an individual react on a given point of time also depends on their mood and state of mind. An emotional state comes from a series of experiences that an individual may have had over the course of the day. Obviously, positive experiences will make a day happier and will inevitably lead the person to be more positive than the others around him.
