Quite often, students crash with lecturers about the deduction of grades for failing to attend some classes. Some instructors also award marks for class attendance. Most colleges also have strict policies regarding minimum class attendance. These policies have caused great controversies. Supporters of mandatory lectures argue that it improves the participation of students in classes. It also instills discipline among students and fosters better performance in examinations. Opponents of compulsory attendance of lectures argue that it violates the freedom of adults. They also claim that it is unfair since it leads to lower grades. Mandatory class attendance is necessary since it instills discipline, ensures that students get a high level of facilitation, and increases academic achievement.
