Abstract
The chemistry Nobel Prize is an award that is given to an individual or two people who contribute significantly to the advancement of chemistry. In light of this, it is obvious that the most justified Prize was given in 1911 to Marie Curie in honor of her contributions in radioactivity. The researcher had made significant contributions in the field of radioactivity reactions. It was now known that radioactivity could be employed in a beneficial way. This paper explains this view.
The Most Justified Nobel Prize in Chemistry
To begin with, some rogue scientists had begun marketing the radioactive substances as medicine, even though the effects of the elements to the human body were not fully understood. Marie out of good will stood firm and objected to the practice. Further studies showed that radioactive elements had severe impacts on the human body. We can now say that the knowledge has played significant part in our wellbeing CITATION Ber00 \l 1033 (Berkeley, 2000).
Secondly, Marie exposed radioactivity so that we could better understand matter and energy. Through the study, we realize that there are three types of decay i.e. the alpha, beta, and gamma. This has gone a long way in the modern day to help countries develop nuclear energy that is efficient, clean and cheaper. Radioactivity is now known to generate 16% of the power used in the world CITATION Cur00 \l 1033 (Curie, 2000).
Lastly, radioactivity has helped in the development of fundamental science. Medical research and treatment have benefitted a lot from the discovery. Particularly important is the realization that X-ra...
