Assignment 3: Socratic Dialogue
For this assignment you will create a Socratic dialogue. The dialogue will be completed in two parts. The first part will be 1–2 pages of notes to help you generate the arguments and analysis that will become a part of your dialogue in Part II.
Part I
1.Identify a belief. This can be a religious belief, an ethical belief, political belief, or any other one about which reasonable minds can disagree. Beliefs that are held by the vast majority of people (such as a widely accepted scientific fact) are not good choices for this assignment). A good topic will have reasonable evidence and reasoning supporting both sides.
2.Consider other points of view, or counter-arguments. Think about what you find persuasive about these counter-arguments, as well as how you might argue against them. Try to keep an open mind. Remember, we are engaging in philosophical dialogue, not trying to win an argument.
3.Examine the multiple points-of-view and weigh the evidence. Identify any unsupported assumptions or holes in the argument.
4.Consider the consequences of the beliefs presented. Philosophical thinking is an ongoing process, so it is important to identify questions for further thinking and to wonder about factors and circumstances that might change your view about a particular question.
Part II
Using the analysis from Part I, write a 2-page dialogue between Socrates and a person of your choosing (i.e., the Interlocutor) that examines the belief.
1.Have the Interlocutor present the belief and reasons you identified in step 1 of Part I.
2.Have Socrates pose questions that encourage the Interlocutor to consider other points-of-view as well as any problems with their argument, drawing upon the multiple points-of-view you identified in steps 2 and 3 of Part I, as well as the potential consequences of a given position as identified in step 4 of Part I.
3.Make sure your dialogue arrives at a conclusion. Keep in mind that it may be different from the belief or point of view you started with, and could be somewhat open-ended. As you searched for reasons that support your belief or point of view, you may have also come across reasons that challenge your beliefs. Don’t hide from these challenges. Remember, philosophy requires us to examine and even question our beliefs. If you find yourself more persuaded by the other points of view, don’t despair! Unlike a formal debate, the kinds of arguments we make while engaging in philosophical thinking are open to revision.

A Socratic dialogue is a formal research tool by which partisan individuals engage in a modest exchange of regards to finding a precise explanation and answer to a trending universal situation/question. The attributes of a debate or competition are left out as there is no win-lose case scenario. The gradual steps undertaken within the frame of allotted time is backed by reaching a consensus progressively whereby any insight, ideology or observation from any participant is considerably discussed to an ultimate deliberation.
In other words, Socratic dialogue is an art of mutual cooperative search for a unified universal truth on a critical issue that has an expressible significance in the modern society as a whole. A lengthy deliberation calls for the involved members to assume the position of a jury, having to entertain all contributions and overcome any shred of reasonable doubt before expression of conviction and articulating a final stand as a universal definition. The virtues of attentiveness, cogent thoughtfulness, tolerance and civility have to dominate the dialogue entirely for the best outcome.
Terrorism is a heinous act that is taking headlines and consuming the human race marked by the uprising of terrorist groups and affiliations throughout the globe. A common perception and belief in the public domain exist that associates terrorism with the Muslim faith in the name of raging a holy war. Is terrorism-inclined to Muslim Religion as a holy war? Are Muslims behind every terrorist attack that happens under the sun? Diversified arguments and schools of thought will help bring to table the actual truth and real insights on the widespread terrorism activity that is eating up the modern society and a wanton bloodshed witnessed. Should a global opinion poll be conducted on who the actual perpetrators of terrorism are, it goes without saying that the Muslim fraternity will be incriminated.
In the real essence, the actual practical definition of terrorism and what it stands for can help mitigate the wayward perceptions dominant in the societal setups. Jihad is a holy war that is orchestrated by a small percentage of Muslims who have got it all wrong on what is required of them as a puritanical faith. It is just a single example of terrorism amongst many others in a list. Civil Disorder is terrorism that has been branded a different name despite levels of aggression being the same or even worse than what is often witnessed as terrorism. It is marked by acts of violence that interfere with the normalcy of security and peace in a state or community triggered by internal differences. Political terrorism is expressed when criminal activities are undertaken in a quest to achieve the desired goal that is politically motivated and inclined. Greedy leaders who are power thirsty do anything at stake to be at the helm of power.
Data terrorism is exhibited by the flaws existing in the use of private information with an intentional selfish aim of benefitting economically or politically. This is a breach of civil right and the involved always suffer and anguish but cannot express their grievances due to the lowly livelihoods they are pitched. The aforementioned inhuman acts of terrorism have no relationship to the Muslim faith, yet they happen every day and are unstoppable. When they happen, people take it as absurdities of life despite how disastrous they can be, but will always express their at most concern when a single Muslim blows a bomb vest killing a dozen op people.
The perception that terrorism is a thing of the Muslim faith should be obliterated from people’s minds at all costs that will with no doubt make people have a more realistic approach to any issue that breaks their cool impacting massive outrage. In Africa, Bloodshed is an order of the day as selfish leaders engage in political duels as they struggle for the higher office-Presidency-.In Zimbabwe, Mali, Burundi, Rwanda, Libya, Egypt, Congo amongst many other African nations, massacres and genocide have been documented in the recent past. These are acts of terrorism that have no religion basis. In fact, for the record, people of the same religion, ethnic backgrounds and tribes are the primary parties involved
The Russian Government has been on the headlines bombing and killing the Ukrainian people due to the conflict of interest existing between both states. Thousands of people have succumbed to death , millions displaced and a scale of discomfort is taking its toll. Were Muslims involved? Are the deaths any better or any lesser than the Jihadist terrorism? The answer is a big No. They are in fact aggravated and worse. The USA, Australian and the Canadian government have been hit data terrorism and breaches which have seen crucial information leaking and misappropriation of private information. A dysfunctional situation arises, and the Supreme countries seem to pull together all the available resources to combat insurgency and Muslim terrorism yet there are much more injustices happening throughout the Globe.
A consequential negative attitude against the Muslim Religion and the people affiliated to it has resulted. Discrimination and marginalization of countries inhabited by Muslims are a trending issue. In his latest statement, Donald Trump -an aspirant for the White House seat- has openly stated that Muslims ought to be denied VISAS to gain them entry into the United States. Until when will the wrong notions and perceptions of terrorism prevail? Will there be a time when the injustices in the societies be addressed with equal concern?

The misconception that terrorism is solely orchestrated by individuals in the Muslim faith
Introduction
In this elaborate Socratic Dialogue, the Interlocutor presents the often claimed belief and ideology that terrorism is inclined to Muslim Religion as a holy war. The Socratic approach stands to question the claim that is widespread in the societal domain that Muslims are responsible for the global terrorisms and give detailed insights that terrorism a indecent act of humanity violation that is expressed in many forms and is real in every setting.
It is a merely a relatively interesting historical based convention that uses Socrates’ name as the questioner. The verbal contextual maneuvering of the involved respondents vary a lot, but the ultimate goal is achieved.
The Dialogue
Interlocutor: The Muslim faith is a portfolio that has waylaid its believers to engage in a holy war significantly expressed in the form of acts of terrorism. It goes without saying the Muslim fraternity has brought more harm than good in the current societies.
Socrates: That remarkably insinuates that being of the Muslim faith is quite an unfortunate religious inclination.
Interlocutor: Something has to be done to address the vice in the Muslim faith Socrates lest the human race will suffer more.
Socrates: Am not only worried about the human race at large but also sad about my tomorrows fate since we dwell in societies where Muslims are our next door neighbors
Interlocutor: To an at most desirable degree and extent, that is the whole truth, Socrates. Am here to lay open every detailed reason that incriminates the Muslim Faith.
Socrates: I appreciate all that my good friend. A question is burning in me and would like you to give me an appropriate phrase that can give me the sharp insight behind it. What is terrorism?
Interlocutor: That is a right question for the subject matter of discussion Socrates. Terrorism encompasses acts of destruction, executions and mass killings by people of the Muslim faith in a quest to spread ...
