This book report touches on the main ideas of the book which bring up the meaning of its topic. The book is about the Kasal’s mission to rescue the fallen soldiers during the period of the Fallujah Battle under the enemy fire. The book introduces the reader to a living standard of military decorum and Marine Corps. Therefore, this report is also about the theme of confidence as revealed by the author in most of the scenes, the theme of war as described in Iraq and the theme of achievement represented by the Navy Cross awarded to Kasal. As well, the main characters of the book are Kasal and the Marine Corps and have been fully presented in most of the themes. The story introduces the reader to Kasal’s life as a Marine which resulted into him being named: “Robo-Grunt”. Also, Kasal climbs ranks by using his experience to show how Marines grow and the manner in which they are shaped by the environment that they work into becoming tigers.
Kasal’s life is full of adventures and they get on a climax point in Iraq whereby he is a 1st Sergeant in the Kilo Company. Kilo is given the order of opening a road between the two bridges that are to be taken away by Saddam’s Fedayeen two days into the operation. Kasal stands on the road between fierce gun fires to demonstrate the type of leadership that the Kilo Company needs in order to have the work done. The fight by Kilo is among the initial tests of Marine Corps and therefor it brings out the themes of war and confidence. By the time the fight is done then the Fayadeen Ninjas are smashed and a week after the incidence, Kasal is welcomed with joy by the population.
Three years later, they go back to Iraq and 3/1 is given the order to take the ancient city of Fallujah back from the Al Qaeda and other foreign fighters after four months of different ambushes. Again, the theme of confidence is revealed by the success in the operation and by Kasal entering into the Pantheon of Heroes. The Iraq war is termed to be one of the fiercest battles fought during the Iraq wars.
At times, the foreign fighters exchange fire and grenades with the Marines in a non-descript house in Fallujah’s neighborhood. The exchange takes place at range on not les...
