Introduction
Negotiation is a dialogue between individuals with an intention of reaching a mutual agreement. However, negotiation is a process that needs deliberate understanding between the two parties so as to reach an agreement. However, it entails that one of the parties has to accept the terms and condition of the other party to the mutual agreement. In addition, one or both parties have to give up one or more of the needs to accommodate the burning matter.
During my class sessions, my professor gave us some examples that motivated me to have a negotiation with my boyfriend. For instance, I found the talk to my professor and his wife to be a most moving dialogue that cannot lead to a quarrel. For example, the wife of the Professor had complained that the teacher uses the car on the daily basis. However, she is also need of the car. In their case, they all sat down and each party had to give a reason he or she was in need of the car. Professor argued that he has daily classes to attend to, and his students expect him to be there on time. On the other hand, professors’ wife claimed that she has she is the one who always go to the shopping center, and she is supposed to carry heavy luggage from the market. In addition, she also needs the car to take her kids to church as well as supervising some family projects. The two parties found that each party had a genuine reason and had to come to an agreement. They came to the conclusion that professor’s wife is the one who will be using the car during the weekends. Their negotiation was very impressing that it motivated me to have a dialogue with my boyfriend.
However, the negotiation process has the main agendas that need the two parties to sit down and discuss them. For instance, my boyfriend is a student at a Culinary Institute of America, and he always plays basketball with friends until 9pm. I am not comfortable with this issue because I need him home by 7 pm so that we can have our dinner together. However, he claims that he needs enough time to attend training. But it takes the time to late hours till he misses our dinner time or comes home during late hours (Tracy, 2013). On the other hand, too have my new classes that will take more time and I have to concentrate to get good grades. However, my boyfriend is not happy because we don’t have time together. Therefore, we had to sit down and have a detailed discussion on how we are going to find enough time together. Moreover, my boyfriend studies at the Culinary Institute of America and it is a place that needs someone needs to have a car to enable him to move up and down quickly. That is also another reason that makes my boyfriend come home late.
Previously I tried to convince my boyfriend to come home before, 7 pm but he was very annoyed, and it was like I offer protective and selfish as not to consider his hobby. However, after a negotiation lesson in my school, I learned an important lesson that enabled me to settle my difference with my boyfriend. In the class lesson, I learned that, I am supposed to be considerate of the other party and thought to listen to the opinion of another individual. It helped resolve our case in that; we had to sit down with my boyfriend to plan for our daily schedule to accommodate both of us. My primary proposal was that he arrives home on time that is before 7pm so that we have our dinner together. I am somebody who feels hungry frequently and don’t enjoy my meals eating ...
