Skills and professional knowledge in counseling are important to all sectors of life we are living today. Many people around the world are experiencing a lot of stress from their places of work to their homes due to the complexity of tasks and the greater social expectations. Children too are becoming a major victim of the current industrialized and the technically advanced world as their parents and guardians allocate a little time to be with them translating to poor nurturing of the next generation. These issues persuaded me to look for professional skills in counseling where I joined the York University to pursue Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. Currently, it is my desire to enroll in the Alder University in Vancouver and take the Counseling major.
There are various reasons why I would like to be part of your students majoring in Counseling. First, the Vancouver campus is well located to the city that would well present the situations concerning the needs for my study. The social life in the city is very dynamic in that the city residents are always busy on their daily activities that would enhance their economic capabilities. In this regards, a part of the society including the younger generation, the elderly as well as the sick may feel as left out of the social progress. These are a group of people in the society that need to feel loved. They do feel otherwise as the society allocate very little time to be with them. As a person with social counseling background, I will use the skills acquired in the university to enhance my activity in making sure that the minority in the society does not feel neglected and depressed with the issue.
My passion as a social counselor begun right in the city where I worked as a babysitter here in Vancouver. Babysitting is challenging and requires one to have the skills that would ensure that the babies left on your hand do not miss their parents. The babysitter is required to develop that psychological awareness that would make the children feel that they are in the loving hand of the babysitters. Also, parents would expect the babysitter to offer competent skills within the ethical boundary in babysitting. Therefore, I learned a lot and practiced these skills as a babysitter.
