Personal Teaching Philosophy
A young person needs caring, a safe and sound plus a stimulating feeling to develop and grow up academically, bodily, emotionally and communally (Lenz-Taguchi, 2010). Teaching is the most rewarding aspect of my career. I consider my success in the classroom to be the supreme contribution to the society and life in general. Teaching energizes me as I strive to share the love of education with the students. If the students see that am enthused, it is most likely for them to be enthused as well. I take upon myself to show them that I do care about their learning. I also robustly believe that valuable teaching involves synergistic and collaborative relationship between the instructor and the students. As an instructor, the expectations for my students and me are high: I push them and in turn they push me, all this in a mutually respectful way. This essay discusses my personal teaching philosophy based on the early childhood theories and practices.
Nature is deterministic of who we are and the traits we poses. I understand that children have varying traits and abilities which narrows down to the genes they inherited. The understanding of this nature theory will help me know how to handle the student’s varying abilities. Nurture theory on the other hand argues that the environmental factors have effects in our behaviors and defines who we are. Children should be brought up and taught in conducive environment so that unlikely traits cannot be adopted. I believe that with the understanding of the two, I can be able to handle different learners and create an environment that will define their ambitions and aspirations in life.
My choice of pedagogy is guided by a number of objectives and desired outcomes. The most fundamental one is for students to take ownership of their education (Lenz-Taguchi, 2010). For this reason most of my teaching takes up the form of Socratic questioning. This method is beneficial as it promotes engagement of the student and the course material by fostering reflection and critical thinking. Psychology is a discipline lending itself to this approach because many students rarely reflect on the causes of their behavior. There are many everyday examples that exemplify psychological doctrine in action. Therefore I utilize a lot of active learning activities, in-class, where students have the chance to apply whatever they learn to these well acknowledged simulations.
The design of my classroom will enhance the highest level of effectiveness and engagement. The students becomes part of the designing that is neat , well organized for optimal learning and one that families and children feel comfortable to attain the utmost level of learning possible. The space must allow for redesign for the children and for creative play. I believe the classroom essentially defines the education and the value of the children. (Wurm, 2005) states that the setting takes space a step further and it’s the way the space is dressed up, lived in and premeditated over time. The learning process can be affected by how the classroom is arranged. Class organization also means I get the right materials that will effectively aid the learning process.
I have discovered that progressivism to be my philosophy of education. My intention is having the right program of study, philosophy techniques, and classroom management along with the way of assessing learners to follow the progressive philosophy. A way to student interest in one direction is to hold a discussion concerning the sessions to be undertaken. Learners can produce thoughts as well as lay down targets so as to give up beneficial actions than what I can do given the opportunity for input. A classroom should be student centered so that they can feel and make decisions on themselves. I believe education is for students and should always contribute in whatever manner they wish to be taught.
I have a desire for my classroom to be centered in a democratic society and on the students. The students will have the freedom to explore and make their decisions. Given that the classroom will be student centered, I will involve them in formulating a set of laws and make them understand the penalty to be charged for having the rules broken. Having such a duty entrusted to them while still young will promote a homeland of bright, free thinking persons. Generally, educations role is producing individuals with good judgments plus morals, for the reason of using the awareness for the assistance of the public.
The free discussion of thoughts and an astute way of discipline helps students develop respect, love for themselves, others and the environment they are in. The teaching environment evolves the moment learners contribute freely while expressing their minds. Class meetings are a means of encouraging such discourse. I suppose that kids and students encompass superior esteem among their peers, educators and the education learnt while feeling secured is anticipated from them.
There are quite a lot of methods of instructing the set of courses appropriately. These are the decision making, logical study, trouble shooting, supportive knowledge behavior, and the critical th...
