Pollution
Pollution is defined as the presence of harmful or poisonous substances in the environment, making it dangerous to living things. There are different forms of pollution; water, air, soil, and noise. Air is polluted when harmful gases such as sulfur dioxide, carbon dioxide, or nitrogen oxides are released into the air. In water pollution, sewage, chemicals, or agricultural runoffs are released into water bodies. Soil pollution occurs when the soil is contaminated by industrial waste, herbicides and pesticides. Noise pollution results from excessive noise levels that disrupt the natural environment. All these forms of pollution happen as a result of human activities and cause damage to the planet. This paper will disclose some of the impacts that have been made by pollution and some real solutions to how these problems can be handled because failure to address these issues could affect the planet's natural resources could be diminished.
Pollution has many negative impacts not only on the environment but also on human health. First, pollution damages ecosystems. By harming animals, plants, and other organisms in the environment, pollution disrupts the normal balance of ecosystems, causing a decline in certain species. Second, it leads to a wide range of health-related issues that are problematic to humans (MassDEP, n.d.). These include cancer, heart disease, and even respiratory issues. The popular greenhouse effect that causes global warming occurs due to pollution. Therefore, pollution contributes to climate change by causing a sudden rise in global temperatures, leading to droughts and severe heat waves. Lastly, by releasing harmful substances into the environment, the quality of air and water become degraded. As a result of this, is not only the environment damaged but also natural resources decrease. These are just some of pollution's few effects on the global environment.
Some real-life solutions can be applied to tackle the problems associated with pollution. Burning fossil fuels such as oil is an act that contributes to pollution largely. Therefore, reducing energy consumption is one of the ways that can be applied to help curb the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Another solution is embracing the use of clean energy sources such as wind and solar to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels. Transportation is also a major contributor to pollution (King, 2018). People should embrace alternatives such as walking and using public transportation among other alternatives to driving alone, which would help reduce emissions.
As earlier stated, pollution is induced mainly by human activities. Therefore, people should use environmental-friendly products. Additionally, they should adopt reusing and recycling materials to reduce waste materials that lead to pollution. In order to control the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, planting trees and supporting reforestation is another real-life solution that can be applied because trees absorb these harmful gases. The last solution is supporting polici...
