Prisoners Dilemma (Essay Sample)

Instructions:
This task was about a classic problem in game theory that illustrates the challenges of cooperation. In the problem, two individuals are arrested and charged with a crime. Each prisoner is placed in a separate cell and cannot communicate with the other. They are then offered the following deal: if one prisoner confesses and the other remains silent, the first prisoner will be set free while the other will serve a long prison sentence. If both confess, they will both serve a moderate prison sentence. If both remain silent, they will both serve a short prison sentence. The dilemma arises because each prisoner must decide whether to confess or remain silent, not knowing what the other prisoner will do. The optimal strategy for each prisoner is to confess, even though this leads to the worst outcome for both. source..

The convicts are in a dilemma as they are trying to get to the point of no penalty, which is 0. The game starts with Jessy and frank planning to stay mum in the lower right cell, which means they are both in an equal state and will lose by -2. The DA will try to award them so that both will consider confessing. If Jessy and frank choose to confess, they will come to an equilibrium of -5 which means they will both get a penalty exceeding the stay mum. If frank tries to minimize his penalty, it means that he will confess while Jessy Stay mum, which will lead to Jessy ...
