In the past, the criteria for selection of project managers were professional since project managers were appointed at random from anywhere within the company. No clear standards were set to guide in the selection of a project manager. Professionally, that should be the case; there need to be clear guidelines on who can manage a project, with clearly defined qualifications. The change brought in 2007 is a good and it can bring a lot of improvement s in the performance. It is an approach that can help to save the company from the continuous fall in sales a trend that can be attributed to the former ineffective management of projects in the company.
However, these new changes alone cannot be relied to take the company to new levels especially with the ever dynamic environment of projects. Individuals assigned to lead project should possess great skills so as to successfully transform the organization. On key skill that a project manager should possess is creativity as a problem solver (Kerzner, 2013). Every time, the project leaders will be faced with different complicated problems that call for critical thinking to get round them. Therefore, he/she will need to be creative enough to give direction whenever a problem arises. Secondly, there is need to have flexibility in management.
