A hero is a courageous person that many people admire. They admire this person because he is brave and has many other good qualities. However, in literature a hero is a person who can make good decisions when he is in danger. In the book, The Ramayana Rama is a hero because he makes smart decisions in stressful situations. This makes people of the kingdom love Rama for his courage. This paper will show how Rama is a hero in the book the Ramayana
To begin with, the book The Ramayana shows Rama as a brave person. He is famous, and many people know this. Even though, his father considers him a child describes him as, a stripling person who will be useless against the terrible forces, Viswamithra knows what Rama is capable. Therefore, he comes to seek his help to travel to the Sidhasrama to perform a Yagna. Being aware of Rama’s brevity, he is specific that he only wants Rama. He is sure that, Rama will protect him from the evil creatures that have immeasurable power of destruction, which await him on his way (Narayan1972, p46). Besides, he refuses the king and his offer of armies and states that he only needs Rama. Viswamithra becomes angry and decides to leave when the king refuses to offer Rama. He does not even wait for the ceremonious goodbye given to visitors. A person who is worth the king and the armies is a very courageous person. In the end, Viswamithra is not disappointed.
Secondly, The Ramayana shows Rama as a great warrior for his skills with arrows. He shown for many fights he wins. For example, on the way to Sidhasrama, "Rama beats Thakata, who is described as a woman of great supernatural power and physical strength. She had destroyed all creatures that came on her way”(Narayan1972, p46). Besides, at Janaka palace he demonstrates brevity by saving Sita whose father intended to keep with him forever. He displays his courage when he walks without worrying about the bow and arrows at him. Great of all, is the fight with Ravana and his sister Soorpanaka. Rama defeats this ten-headed Lord, which boasts that inferior beings cannot overcome him. Because of this, Soorpanaka describes Rama as "splendor being whose strength is unmatched for he had single-handedly taken out her armies" (Narayan 1972, p176).
The heroism portrayed by Rama is a good example people should try to follow. Besides, there is a lot to learn from Rama since many his actions can apply in life. To begin with, Rama willingly leave his rightful throne for his stepbrother. According to the author, "In a world that customs people to rivalries over possession, authority, and borders. People are clashing over the issues of "ours" or "mine" and "not yours”. It is strange to find two people debating whose kingdom it is not and asserting it's yours, not mine" (Narayan 1972, p128). However, Rama shows that, power is not everything and leaves everything for the forest. Despite this, as a star Rama shines so bright, his people for their love for him restores back his seat.
In addition, The Ramayana shows Rama as a person who values life. First as a hero, he saves Sita twice from potential danger, from his father and Ravana. In this, The Ramayana shows that, as rama we should give our lives to others we stand a chance to win something even bigger, for Rama, a wife. Besides, he shows it is not worth dying when we can live. He demonstrates this he frees Alhanya, from the stone form. The Ramayana, therefore, equates Rama as a person who values life, setting a good example for people to follow.
Besides, The Ramayana also shows Rama as a Hindu hero who follows the guidelines of dharma. He shows him as obedient person to elders and parents. Rama obeys his father to go with Viswamithra; he also obeys when his father when he cannot make him a king. Besides, he follows the request of his stepmother to go into exile for 14 years. Despite this, he refers Kaireyi as the mother in the gentlest manner. Obedience in relationships is a great value in Hinduism; The Ramayana portrays Rama as a person who can give up everything to embrace his faith. Even his brother fails to convince to take back his seat; he dismisses him and plainly tells him that the parents have made a choice so they should respect it. He argues that there could not be any higher word than that of his father (Nara...
