The period of religious reformation took place during the 16th centaury. During this time, the civic and the sacral communities were busy defining the relationship that they had with God. They did this through ignoring the authority that the leadership of the church had. On the other hand, the Catholics and the Protestants took practices of the church very seriously by taking harsh measures to abide by the church doctrines (Kaplan, 2007).
In the ancient times during the period of reformations, there were a lot of conflicts between major religious groups and that of the civic society (Kaplan, 2007). This kind of conflict was based on the implementation of Christian virtues. However, the manner in which these virtues were expressed was brutal. Some people were subjected through a lot of suffering such as being executed. This brought attention of various countries who questioned the morality of these behaviors.
For a long time, those who were in the camp of the Protestants as well as the Catholic Church were able to advance cruel measures of protecting their religion. This was promoted by the fact that they were protected by the court officials who were under pressures to abide by these doctrines.
