USE OF ANIMALS IN MEDICAL RESEARCH
There has been heating debates concerning the question of whether man should use animals for medical research without reaching a compromise. Based on this, many people have died due to various illnesses many of which there were little known about them at that time. Innocent souls were lost, and poor infants endured much pain they should never have felt. Even animals were stricken by diseases and died from poor health. Drugs such as penicillin have been developed from tests done on animals and has saved millions of lives since its discovery (Mitchem, 2009). This is, therefore, one of the achievements in the field of medicine, and we attribute this to animal testing.
Medical research can lead to the discovery of other products and medicine that could improve the lives of human beings and animals. Testing on animals does not mean that the animal has to die. Some tests have become successful, and the animals' life spared and at times gotten better. Therefore, positively research should be encouraged in order to better our human lives and that of animals.
Animals’ body system is similar to the human body, and since it is totally morally wrong to use dead or living people, we can comfortably use animals to test a new medicine (Chandorkar, 2010).
