Should Students Pay More For Their Tuition And Why?
The government, society and learning institutions have put forward many theories as to why students should pay more for their tuition. Among the many reasons is that, when students pay more, they become engaged in their studies and often achieve better grades. The assertion is true, and I am convinced that students should pay more for their tuition. Parents’ financial support raises the chances of college attendance and later graduation, but it potentially decreases academic achievements (Waseem, 2013).
Students who get more tuition fee from their parents fail to put more effort in their academics. Instead, they actively participate in social and extracurricular activities (Garner, 2014). Doing so significantly reduces their chances of graduation. Regardless of the financial capability of parents, governments across the world approach education not considering the factor. The government perceives education as a right and not as a privilege; hence, it has provided students both from well off and needy with subsidized loans to cater for their educational needs (Waseem, 2013).
Some students, however, have spent large proportions of their loans on non-essentials, such as entertainment. At the end of their education life, then, they achieve lower grades, but accrue debts, and this is the major basis of opposition to students’ paying their tuition (Garner, 2014). Although I support that students pay more for their tuition, parents should continue supporting them.
Even though students are perceived responsible by the constitution, and they can pay taxes, drive and marry, they are not entirely responsible. Students require advice on how to become responsible, which will help them prioritize educational grants for the intended purpose and avoi...
