My talent that is so meaningful to me is skating, and I have been skating for as long as I can remember. How I came to learn the skill and embrace it as my hobby and passion is not a mystery. I may have been born in a neighborhood where skating was not so popular, but I had an elder brother who was skating with his friends at school (which was quite far from home). I was about five years old and I thought skating was the nicest thing that would happen to me if I learnt it. I can remember clinging onto my brother’s roller skates and refusing to let go until my dad decided to buy me a new pair of roller skates for myself. The problem was, however, that my brother was not always at home to teach me and I could not learn by myself. My curiosity to learn was ever growing despite the fact that there was no one to teach me.
When by brother came home, I always made sure he gave me two or three lessons before he could leave me all alone to learn by myself (I was now a bit older not the five year-old who cried when my brother refused to teach me). It was unfortunate for me that I did not attend the same school that my elder brother did, mainly because we moved and my brother was left to stay with grand mum. He occasionally visited us and he never left his skating equipment behind. I think we were alike in our obsession with skating. His passion may not have been greater than mine, and that is why I consider it a talent rather than a hobby.
Skating became my hobby and I realized that I had a talent I could not resist. My brother was amazed that with the few lessons he gave me, I could skate so well and perform some tricks that even he himself has never attempted. Skating has become so meaningful to me such that whenever I go, I never forget my equipment and I always try to create some time for skating.
