Computers have had tremendous historical and current effects on the economy, environment, education, and morals. Business has become much easier and less costly. For instance, many companies such as banks have embraced computer technology in their daily operations. The result has been reduced costs since computers can efficiently do traditional jobs at much-reduced expenditure. Many careers have emerged such as computer science. There has been job creation in the current computer era. Research has improved greatly in the education sector compared to the historic computer age as most people can access learning materials online. Distant learning has made education much cheaper and affordable to many people. Computers have resulted to moral decadence among the youth as they can easily access pornographic materials through the internet. Environmental degradation has increased as the paper printouts continue to be on the rise; implying a significant number of trees cut.
Social impact of computers
Computers have had a great historical and current impact on the world. The economic standards of people have greatly improved as most people are getting employed compared to the previous centuries. It has also had an impact on our environment negatively as nature is being destroyed. There has been a positive effect on relationships as people can freely communicate at any time cheaply. The education sector has had great strides. Morally, there have been some effects.
The invention of computers has greatly changed the economy of the world as a whole. Business and trade has become so easy as communication through electronic mail is very fast (Pierce, 2011). There has been a reduced cost of doing businesses in many sectors of the economy. Electronic commerce channels have grown, thereby increasing many business opportunities. Examples are Ebay and Amazon.com. Money transfer platforms such as Paypal have emerged, with a significant penetration in many markets. According to Northaus (2006), the best way to check on technological progress in computing is either through making estimates of the rate of total or partial factor productivity or through checking on prices trends. Computers have improved the economy of many countries by providing employment directly to their workforce. According to Pierce (2011), Business Process Outsourcing has provided many countries with a boost in their economy by providing thousands of jobs to their people thus improving their living standards. Research in the medical field has developed as scientists can carry out their experiments perfectly well compared to the pre-computer era. There has been a positive effect on the economy as there is a marked decline in mortality rates.
A look at the historic and current effect of computers on the educational sector reveals some advances such as distant learning. People can nowadays access lectures online and even attain their degrees without necessarily attending classes physically. Educational materials such as books and articles can easily be accessed through the internet thus making learning cheaper and affordable to many. Computers have provided a medium for storing numerous soft copies of educational materials. Many disciplines have come up through computer revolution.
